 Environment Day is one of the most important day devoted to our Mother Earth.

World Environment Day is the United Nations  Day for encouraging world wide awareness and action to protect our Environment.

World Environment Day is observed on 5 th of  June every year to reminisce people about the importance of Nature .The day is celebrated across the world to aware people about nature should not be taken for granted and must be respected for its Values.

History of World Environment Day


The United Nations Assembly established World Environment Day in 1972, which was the first day of the Stockholm conference on the human environment.

World Environment Day was first observed in 1974 in the United States. In 1974, the theme of the World Environment Day was 'Only One Earth' since then, various host countries have been celebrating it, also the idea of revolving the center for these activities started.

The theme for this year's World Environment Day is "Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience" .

As this year, World Environment Day's theme is "Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience" which focuses on living sustainably in harmony with nature. This year World Environment Day conference is hosted in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Significance of the World Environment Day


The theme behind observing World Environment Day is to highlight the importance  of the Environment and to remind people about the responsibilities towards the Mother Earth.

Every year this day is observed to acknowledge, what nature has been doing for us. While at the same time remind how pollution, environmental degradation and climate change is rising due to our action against the nature, we need to be more responsible for our actions.

This day provides an opportunity for citizens to pause, reflect  and take responsible steps to preserve and enhance the environment.

The important aspects, did you know that each year Marine plants produce more than half of our atmosphere oxygen.

A mature tree 🌴 cleans the air by absorbing 22kg of carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen in return .

Each year, pollinators like bee's and bats help three fourth of the world's flowering plants and approximately 35 percent of the world's food crops reproduce.

Today humans extract more from the Earth than ever before the world population has double over 50 years and the per- person consumption of material is up by 15 percent since 1980.

Every Little Deed Matters


On the occassion of World Environment Day it is essential for all to realise that every little deed matters, when it comes to saving the environment. No matter how small a step you are taking to lead a greener lifestyle it does make a difference.

In the year 2020, during the lockdown all of us must have noticed the Mother Earth 🌍 rejuvenating back to greener lands and cleaner skies. 

You might have witnessed chirping birds on your balcony and pleasent weather through out the Summer and Winter season, while the human world was seeking to resist a dangerous virus. During lockdown, our Environment took the opportunity to renew itself and heal from the wounds we left on it.


The theme Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience" can be achieved through many form's like by Growing Tree's, Greening Cities, Reviving Gardens, Adopting Eco-friendly diets or cleaning  or cleaning up River's and Coasts.This is the generation that can make peace with nature.


As we celebrate 5th June, today as World Environment Day let us all come together and make this world a better place to live.
